e-Commerce App
See how SDLC Corp designed and delivered a health and beauty eCommerce app for a US retailer, covering UX design, cross-platform development, legacy integration, compliance, and a verified 68% increase in conversion rate post-launch.

About the Project
The client is a US-based online retailer operating across health, beauty, pharmaceutical, and prescription product categories. The project required a mobile commerce platform built to serve a broad consumer base, from everyday beauty shoppers to customers managing ongoing prescription needs, while meeting strict data privacy and healthcare compliance requirements.
SDLC Corp handled the full project: UX research, UI design, cross-platform development, legacy ERP and pharmacy system integration, compliance implementation, and post-launch support. The project delivered a measurable improvement in both conversion rate and app retention.

UX and Design
The UX strategy was built around three core principles: speed of discovery, confidence at checkout, and trust in the prescription workflow. Every screen was built to make browsing faster and decisions easier: fewer steps to checkout, clearer product information, and a consistent look across a product range spanning beauty, wellness, and pharmaceutical categories.

"Delivering a commerce experience across health, beauty, and pharmaceutical categories required more than standard UX. It had to feel premium for a beauty buyer and completely trustworthy for a customer managing prescriptions. That balance defined every design and engineering decision on this project."

Our Approach
We mapped customer journeys across all buyer types: casual beauty shoppers, wellness buyers, and prescription customers. This happened before a single screen was designed.
Each screen was designed to reduce friction: clear visual hierarchy, persistent cart access, fast checkout for returning users, and a prescription flow that felt reliable and easy to use regardless of the customer's technical confidence.
Short build cycles with UX testing at each stage meant design decisions were validated against real usage before the next phase began, reducing rework and keeping the release timeline on track.
Delivery Process
User stories, user roles, and customer journey mapping across health, beauty, and prescription product categories.
User flows, wireframes, and interactive prototypes for the key screens: product listing, cart, checkout, and prescriptions.
Android and iOS app build with API integration to legacy systems, payment gateway, and prescription service backend.
Unit, functional, and integration testing across both platforms. Security and data privacy testing for the prescription section.
App store and Play Store release with staged rollout and post-launch monitoring.
User feedback analysis, conversion tracking, and UX adjustments based on real usage data post-launch.
Challenges
Delivering a commerce platform across health, pharmaceutical, and beauty categories introduced both technical integration challenges and significant regulatory obligations.
Challenge
The client operated across several legacy systems: a pharmacy management platform, a retail ERP, and a prescription fulfilment backend. None of these were built for mobile integration. Data format mismatches, inconsistent record schemas, and restricted integration access created significant synchronisation risk.
Solution
SDLC Corp built a middleware API layer that bridged the gap between the legacy systems and the mobile app, normalised data formats, and kept product and prescription data in sync in real time. No existing infrastructure needed to be replaced.
Challenge
The platform handled three categories of sensitive data at the same time: protected health information (PHI) in the prescription workflow, financial data through payment processing, and consumer personal data across the user base. Each category carried different compliance requirements.
Solution
SDLC Corp implemented end-to-end encryption for all health and payment data, role-based access controls aligned with HIPAA standards, a PCI DSS-compliant payment integration, and session management that met CCPA requirements for the US customer base.
Compliance
The platform was engineered to meet four distinct compliance frameworks applicable to a US health and beauty eCommerce operation.
HIPAA
Prescription workflows and protected health information (PHI) were handled in line with HIPAA minimum-necessary standards, including encryption, access controls, and audit logging.
PCI DSS
The payment processing layer was implemented using a PCI DSS-compliant gateway integration, ensuring cardholder data was never stored or transmitted outside compliant channels.
CCPA
Consumer data collection, consent flows, and data deletion mechanisms were implemented in accordance with California Consumer Privacy Act requirements applicable to the US customer base.
WCAG 2.1 AA
The app UI was designed and tested to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards, ensuring the platform was usable across the full range of the client's customer demographic.
Technology
The application used a cross-platform mobile architecture, a flexible backend API layer, secure integrations, and structured testing tools to support commerce, prescription, and payment operations.
Frontend
A shared mobile codebase supported consistent Android and iOS interfaces while reducing duplicated development and maintenance.
Backend
Node.js powered the application APIs, business logic, order processing, customer accounts, and communication with legacy systems.
Database
MongoDB supported product catalogue information, user profiles, shopping carts, order records, and flexible commerce data structures.
Security
Encryption protected prescription information, customer records, authentication data, and payment communication throughout the app.
Integrations
The integration layer connected payment services, the retail ERP, pharmacy systems, inventory records, and prescription fulfilment.
Quality Assurance
Functional, integration, security, accessibility, and device-compatibility testing validated the platform before release.
Impact
The redesigned UX and faster checkout flow directly drove a 68% improvement in conversion rate post-launch.
App bounce rate dropped substantially after launch, reflecting improved navigation and faster product discovery.
The app delivered the same UX quality on both Android and iOS, reducing support queries related to platform differences.
Customer prescription data and payment details were protected through encryption and access controls throughout the app.
